AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION WATCHDOG TO EXAMINE CDMA TECHNOLOGY.

SYDNEY, April 12 Asia Pulse - CDMA technology and networks are now to be covered by Australia's competition watchdog under its regulatory umbrella, enabling it to better monitor increases to mobile phone service prices.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman Allan Fels said the decision would help the commission ensure competition continue to increase in the mobile market.

"The decision brings consistency and greater certainty to the regulation of mobile GSM services," he said.

The decision puts global standard for mobile telephony (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) mobile phone services on an equal regulatory footing.
