LIMITS TO AUSTRALIA'S LIABILITY INSURANCE COULD BACKFIRE: ACCC.

MELBOURNE, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - The head of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) warned today that some of the proposed limitations on public liability insurance could benefit shonky suppliers.

"We have to make sure we don't get carried away by short-term concerns to undermine not only important protections for consumers, but also if it leads to less care in the provision of services," ACCC chairman Professor Allan Fels told reporters.

Prof Fels said reviews of public liability insurance should be about minimising accidents and the cost of accidents.

The ACCC was concerned about a proposal to stop people engaged in risky activities from making claims.
