TAIWAN'S KIDD-CLASS WARSHIPS DEAL TO COST US$785 MLN.

TAIPEI, Oct 17 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's Minister of National Defense Tang Yiau-min yesterday said that U.S.-built Kidd-class destroyers are the best choice for Taiwan for the procurement of large warships at the moment.
Tang made the remarks in a report delivered to the Legislative Yuan's defense committee as part of the military's efforts to win legislative support for the Kidd-class destroyer procurement project.
Noting that China has greatly increased its defense budget in recent years, Tang said that if Taiwan fails to make comparable efforts, it will gradually lose its supremacy in defensive warfare after 2005.
