PHILIPPINES TO MAINTAIN TARIFF RATES FOR MFN UNDER WTO.

MANILA, Oct 23 Asia Pulse - The technical committee of the Tariff Related Matters (TRM) has decided to maintain the existing tariff rates for most favored nation (MFN) under the World Trade Organization (WTO) as well as to the petrochemical sector in ASEAN's Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEFT).
Trade and Industry Undersecretary Thomas G. Aquino, who presided the TRM-technical meeting on Monday, said their recommendation would be submitted to the Cabinet-level TRM.
According to Aquino, it would be easier to maintain the rates to give the country a good bargaining position in the next round of trade talks in the WTO, which will concentrate more on agriculture and services sectors.
