SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS EYES US$1.4 BLN FLASH MEMORY CHIP SALES THIS YEAR.

SEOUL, Oct 29 Asia Pulse - Samsung Electronics Co. (KSE:05930) said Tuesday its flash memory chip sales for this year are expected to nearly quintuple over last year to US$1.4 billion, helped by growing markets for mobile moving pictures and USB (universal serial bus) drive.
Sales have continued to rise from $180 million in the first quarter to $370 million in the third quarter and are expected to soar to $400 million in the fourth quarter.
Samsung is said to have grabbed more than 60 per cent of the global NAND-type flash memory chip market after Japan's Toshiba Corp. suspended production by selling its U.S. plant to Micron Technology Inc.
