PHILIPPINE GOVT DISCUSSES SOLAR ENERGY OPTIONS.

MANILA, Nov 22 Asia Pulse - With abundant sunlight all year round, the Philippine government is tapping solar energy as a viable alternative power for its comprehensive energy program, to lessen the country's dependence on imported coal and oil bunker fuel.

In fact, solar energy application has been going on for sometime now in some rural areas in the country, thanks to the Philippine-German Solar Energy Program (PGSEP).

Full utilization of solar energy has become more urgent this time in the wake of the predicament the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is facing after the Supreme Court ordered the electric firm to refund its 3.5 million customers the company had overcharged from 1994 to 1998.
