SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS POSTS US$4.5 BLN REVENUE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA.

SEOUL, Jan 20 Asia Pulse - Samsung Electronics Co. (KSE:05930) today said it booked US$4.5 billion in revenue from exports to Southeast Asia last year, up 50 per cent from US$3 billion in 2001.
Led by brisk sales of premium electronic goods in the region, Samsung's local production, excluding materials, parts and half-finished products, accounted for US$1.9 billion in revenue last year, up 60 per cent from US$1.2 billion in 2001, according to its officials.
"Only a few years ago, Southeast Asia was overrun by Sony, Panasonic and Nokia. But now Samsung and Sony are in a brand competition," a Samsung official said.
