PHILIPPINES TO REVIEW IMPORT TARIFF COMMITMENTS UNDER WTO.

MANILA, Jan 13 Asia Pulse - A review of import tariff commitments under the World Trade Organization (WTO) will start this month as the government moves to prolong protection to domestic industries and help shore up revenue generation.
However, the Department of Trade and Industry is seen to favor maintaining the status quo of tariffs slapped to most-favored nations (MFN) or tariffs to WTO member countries but are non-ASEAN members.
Following the policy speech of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Trade and Industry Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II said the review will be jointly undertaken with the Tariff Commission and the National Economic and Development Authority.
