VISA INT'L WARNS AUSTRALIAN RETAILERS ON IMPOSING SURCHARGES.

CANBERRA, Jan 17 Asia Pulse - Credit card giant Visa International will launch a public campaign this weekend warning shopkeepers of the consequences of charging consumers extra for using their credit cards.
Reserve Bank reforms allowed shops to slug consumers with a surcharge for using their credit cards from January 1, although few businesses have taken up the opportunity.
Visa International said surcharging had the potential to increase living costs for credit card holders and their families, and it was important both consumers and merchants were informed about the change.
The company plans to distribute brochures to 250,000 merchants, telling them they have to inform customers of any surcharge before the purchase.
