TELSTRA IS A RISK TO COMPETITION: AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER WATCHDOG.
AsiaPulse News, March, 2003
SYDNEY, March 7 Asia Pulse - Telstra Corp Ltd (ASX:TLS) is a risk to competition according to Australia's top competition watchdog at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Allan Fels.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) chairman said Telstra used its market power to stifle competition, which had failed to meet expectations when the industry was fully deregulated six years ago.
"The outcomes as regards competition have not really met the expectations of 1997," Professor Fels told an Australian Telecommunications Users Group conference today.
"The commission's analysis is that progress is slowing."
Telstra chief executive Ziggy Switkowski seized on the comments, which he described as "out of date"...
