KOREA TO PUSH FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRY STATUS IN WTO FARM TALKS.

SEOUL, March 17 Asia Pulse - Agriculture and Forestry Minister Kim Young-jin said Monday the government will make all-out efforts to maintain its status as a developing country in World Trade Organization (WTO) talks on agriculture.

Meeting the press before his departure Thursday for the Ministerial Meeting on Water for Food and Agriculture in Japan, Kim said, "I will make aggressive diplomatic efforts to explain Korea's underdeveloped agricultural sector during the three-day stay."

During the meeting, he pledged to make every effort for maintenance of the minimal market access (MMA) regime for Korea's rice market in WTO talks on market openings scheduled for 2004. Kim also said he is planning to give the order to merge in-house pro-environmental departments...
