WTO CRISIS LOOMS AS AUSTRALIA SLAMS EU AGRICULTURAL REFORMS.

CANBERRA, July 18 Asia Pulse - Europe's reform of its farm subsidy system would do nothing for world trade and failed to improve its pathetic access for Australian farmers, government officials said today.

Senior Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade officials said an independent analysis of Europe's reforms to its Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) showed they did little for world trade.

Pressure is growing on the current round of World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks, with all members set to meet at the Mexican resort city of Cancun in September.

None of the targets set by the WTO have been met in almost two years of negotiations, with particular concern about the lack of movement on agricultural reform which is central to the round.
