VISA REPORTS UPSURGE IN TOURISTS VISITING ASIA PACIFIC REGION.

SYDNEY, July 8 Asia Pulse - Tourists were returning to the Asia Pacific region following the battle with SARS, a credit card company said today.

Visa International said the number of transactions made by tourists using its cards in the Asia Pacific area was at its highest level in three months, as the impact of SARS continued to diminish around the region.

Earlier this month the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced SARS, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, had been contained.

The respiratory illness killed more than 800 people and infected more than 8,400 in some 30 countries.

Visa said its latest figures showed the number of international transactions in the region were down only 11 per cent year on year in the last week of June....
