JI MAY TARGET AUSTRALIANS DUE TO AFP'S BALI INVOLVEMENT: EXPERT.

CANBERRA, Aug 8 Asia Pulse - Australian Federal Police (AFP) involvement in bringing about Bali bomber Amrozi bin Nurhasyim's death sentence could make Australians targets of Jemaah Islamiah (JI) retaliation, a Melbourne-based terrorism expert predicted.

David Wright-Neville, of Monash University's global terrorism research project, said he had been intrigued by anti-Australian outbursts during the Bali bombing trials to date.

"I certainly think the cooperation of the AFP in the investigation which was pretty high profile will have registered with JI," Dr Wright-Neville told AAP.

"And it is certainly possible that they could seek to capitalise on that high-profile cooperation, and target Australians somewhere in South-East Asia."
