AUSTRALIA MAY SURPASS US GOLD OUTPUT IN 10 YRS: GYMPIE GOLD MD.

BRISBANE, Sept 23 Asia Pulse - Australia is set to overtake the United States as the world's second-largest gold producer within the next decade, leading industry players said today.

Harry Adams, managing director of Gympie Gold Ltd (ASX:GYM) and deputy chairman of the Australian Gold Council, said Australia was well positioned to eclipse the US in gold production within the next 10 years and could challenge South Africa as the world's dominant producer after that.

His predictions were backed by Melbourne-based mining consulting group Surbiton Associates, which said Australia could overtake the US in "far less time than that".
