MICROSOFT TO RELEASE ONLINE GAMING IN OCT. FOR KOREAN PLAYERS.

SEOUL, Sept 23 Asia Pulse - Microsoft Corp. said on Tuesday it would launch its much-touted Xbox online gaming service next month for gamers here in a bid to catch up to its rival, Sony's PlayStation 2.

The roll out of the online game, Xbox Live, which allows several subscribers to play together via the Internet, is seen as the second round in the company's battle with Sony Corp.

For Microsoft, the Korean debut is also viewed as a test case in gauging the success of Xbox Live, given the country's extensive Internet infrastructure and sophisticated user base.

As of the end of August, more than two thirds of households, the world's highest penetration, are linked to broadband Internet, which offers an always-on, high-speed connection.
