AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION WATCHDOG SEEKS CLOSER LINKS WITH NZCC.

BRISBANE, Oct 24 Asia Pulse - Australia's competition watchdog will seek closer relations with its New Zealand counterpart in the wake of increasingly tangled economic ties between the two countries.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairman Graeme Samuel told a Queensland Press Forum in Brisbane he wanted to establish "very close links" with the New Zealand Commerce Commission (NZCC).

He said he spoke to his NZCC counterpart Paula Rebstock this week when she notified him about her commission's decision to block the Air New Zealand/Qantas alliance.

"I said that I want to arrange in the short term for us to get together and our respective commissions to get together and start working on closer ties," he said.
