VODAFONE AUSTRALIA TO BUILD 3G NETWORK WITHOUT PARTNER.

SYDNEY, Nov 26 Asia Pulse - Vodafone Australia will go it alone in building a third generation (3G) mobile network in Australia, at least for the time being, after failing to find a suitable partner.

Vodafone said it would be investing "hundreds of millions of dollars" in Australia over the next two years, hoping for a launch sometime in 2005 as part of developing a globally compatible 3G network.

3G is the generic name for a set of mobile technologies that enable users simultaneous voice and data services, high-speed internet access, high quality video telephony and CD-quality music services.

The only company to so-far launch 3G services here, Hutchison Telecommunications (Australia) Ltd, will invest roughly A$3 billion (US$2.15 billion) and does...
