SOUTH KOREA TO REPORT DROP IN 2003 DOMESTIC HANDSET SHIPMENTS
SEOUL - South Korean domestic mobile phone shipments are poised to total 13.7 million units for all of 2003, a drop of roughly 1.5 million phones from last year, battered by weak consumer spending, according to industry estimates.
Domestic handset shipments for the year will probably be reduced further as customers are waiting to buy new cell phones during the approach of a new rule that will let subscribers switch mobile operators without giving up their phone numbers.
