US$2.3 MLN SHRIMP FARM OPENS IN VIETNAM.

HANOI, Dec 12 Asia Pulse - A shrimp breeding farm capable of producing 250 tonnes of shrimp for export each year has opened in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The 40ha farm, which cost US$2.3 million, uses advanced technology that protects the environment, said Nguyen Dinh Thiet, chairman of farm's owner, the Trung Viet NDT Joint Stock company, a subsidiary of the US-based NTD Group.

Nguyen Quoc Vinh, director of the Trung Viet shrimp farm, said the shrimp will be bred for export only and will be sold primarily to the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Europe.
