KOREA'S KOOKMIN BANK, SK TELECOM CLASH IN MOBILE BANKING MARKET.

SEOUL, Dec 11 Asia Pulse - Mobile banking is the buzzword in South Korea, the world's most wired country, with wireless operators and banks pitting against each other for a bigger market share.

SK Telecom Co., the country's largest mobile operator, said it will launch mobile banking services called "MBank" in partnership with Woori Bank, Hana Bank, Shinhan Bank, and Chohung Bank by March next year.

"We will develop our own mobile banking service at the onset of the convergence between telecommunications and finance," said an SK Telecom official.

The move comes at a time when BankON, the mobile banking system jointly operated by Kookmin Bank and LG Telecom, the nation's smallest wireless carrier, poses a threat to SK Telecom's dominance in the...
