SANYO, DAIMLERCHRYSLER TO DEVELOP BATTERIES FOR HYBRID CARS.

TOKYO, Oct 19 Asia Pulse - Sanyo Electric Co. (TSE:6764) said Monday that it has agreed to jointly develop batteries for Mercedes-Benz hybrid cars with DaimlerChrysler AG of Germany.

The consumer electronics manufacturer aims to expand European sales of its energy and environmentally friendly products, which include solar cell panels, by five times the current level to 500 billion yen in fiscal 2010.

Sanyo has already launched joint development of batteries for hybrid cars with Ford Motor Co. of the U.S. and Honda Motor Co. (TSE:7267). The company did not specify when its project with DaimlerChrysler will be completed.
