HAMAMATSU PHOTONICS SYSTEM MEASURES IMMUNE RESPONSE.

TOKYO, Nov 1 Asia Pulse - Hamamatsu Photonics KK (TSE:6965) has developed a new type of device for studying the activity of white blood cells, known as leukocytes, that can simultaneously measure both the reaction inside the cells and the immune response they make.
When a leukocyte confronts a foreign compound, the concentration of calcium ions inside the cell changes, and the cell releases free-radical oxygen molecules to attack and eliminate the foreign compound.
Because the new device from Hamamatsu Photonics can measure both events simultaneously, the behavior of leukocytes can be studied in greater detail. It can be used to evaluate the immune function of patients, to analyze the immune-promoting effects of foods, and to evaluate the efficacy of...
