INDIA'S MTNL TO START INTL LONG DISTANCE PHONE SERVICE IN 2005.

NEW DELHI, Nov 29 Asia Pulse - State-owned telecom operator MTNL (BSE:MTNL) will start its own international long distance services in early 2005.

"We plan to offer ILD services early next year. I have already written to the Department of Telecom (DoT) for a licence from the current LoI status and hope to get it soon. We expect to sign the licensing agreement with DoT next month," CMD, MTNL, R S P Sinha, told PTI.

While BSNL was given an ILD licence two years ago, MTNL is at present a Letter of Intent (LoI) holder for such licence. It is gearing up to start its own ILD services next year and has already signed the licensing agreement with DoT.

At present, both the Public Sector Units (PSUs) use VSNL's network infrastructure to offer ILD services....
