AUSTRALIAN REGULATOR CLEARS TELSTRA ACCESS TO HUTCHISON NETWORK.

SYDNEY, Dec 10 Asia Pulse - Telstra Corp Ltd (ASX:TLS)is a step closer to launching a 3G service by mid-2005, after winning approval from the competition regulator to access Hutchison Telecommunication Ltd's 3G network.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) today announced it would not oppose Telstra's 3G radio access network sharing arrangement with Hutchison, which will enable Telstra to commence 3G services by July 1, 2005.

Under the contract, Australia's largest telecommunications company will pay Hong Kong-based Hutchison $A450 million ($US339.75 million) in return for a 50 per cent stake in its infrastructure.
