EC assists Vietnam's battle against poverty

The European Commission last week signed a 20-million euro ($26.4 million) official development assistance package to help Vietnam fight poverty and step up economic growth.

The overall objective of the package is to contribute to poverty reduction while continuing the country's strong economic growth by supporting implementation of institutional and economic reforms, which are envisaged in the government's Comprehensive Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy.

Due to its budgetary support nature, the programme will also focus on improving Vietnam's public financial management.
