Lord Corp., benefiting from earlier-than-usual involvement in the design process, has created a jet engine suspension system for Cessna Aircraft Co. that is lighter and has fewer components than previous systems.
Cessna contacted Lord about the design for the Citation CJ3 light business jet two years ago, even before it chose an engine for the plane, said Jacques Lemire, aerospace global technical marketing manager for Lord.
In the past, Cessna had chosen the engine for its new plane designs before tackling vibration or noise control issues.
Cessna made it clear from the beginning it wanted an engine suspension system design for the CJ3 based on a "damage tolerance'' model. Many previous designs were of a "fail-safe''...
