Within a day of one another, U.S. Steel Corp., Pittsburgh, and LNM Group, Rotterdam, presented offers to purchase Polish steelmaker Polskie Huty Stali S.A. (PHS).
Although each bid remains confidential under terms of the state's privatization process, John H. Goodish, executive vice president for the company's International and Diversified Businesses, says the decisions made by the privatization committee of Poland's Ministry of State Treasury "will determine the fate of thousands of good-paying jobs and the future of steelmaking in Poland."
LMN Group Chairman Lakshmi N. Mittal says his company is interested in purchasing the company in light of "the growing strength of the Polish market, the technical expertise and skills of the PHS workforce, the...
