Flying from the UK to India is set to become easier - and maybe a bit cheaper. Gary Noakes reports

One of British Airways' most sacred cash cows, its services to India, looks under threat following a hearing to decide how to carve up new routes from the UK.

Lawyers for three airlines battled for two days at the CAA's offices in London last week to sway the organisation over arguably its most important route decision for a decade. The CAA must decide how many of 21 new frequencies a week between the UK and India are given to BA, Virgin Atlantic and BMI.

India has liberalised its aviation policy, granting rights for 21 new services to UK airlines and giving another 21 to Air India and other Indian carriers.
