Beaverdale residents hear redesign recommendations

Urban planner Marty Shukert drew a full house at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2926 Beaver Ave., last week when he presented the final design recommendations for the Beaverdale neighborhood in northwestern Des Moines. Shukert, a principal of RDG Planning and Design, outlined a streetscaping plan, ideas for redeveloping the shopping area along the east side of Beaver Avenue and just south of Urbandale Avenue and several concepts for the four-acre site where Byron Rice Elementary School once stood.

The result of an 18-month process, the recommendations now go to the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association and the Beaverdale Business Coalition and then, if approved by those groups, to the Des Moines City Council.
