When it comes to Guidant Corp., one analyst's bargain buy is another's take-over target.

Wall Street observers have showered the Indianapolis-based medical-device maker with a stream of research reports ever since it started making headlines last month with a retirement announcement and a setback in stent development.

These reports range from ratings upgrades to speculation that Guidant would make a good acquisition target for New Jersey-based competitor Johnson & Johnson.
