Eugene City Councilor Pat Farr appeared ready Tuesday to make the commute to Salem, leading school activist Araminta Hawkins in the hotly contested race for House District 14.
In other closely watched legislative contests, Democratic incumbent Vicki Walker held off Republican challenger Mike Cary for Senate District 7, despite being outspent by better than 2-to-1; and incumbent Republican Alan Brown of Newport was holding a slight lead over Democrat Marcia Thompson in the coast's House District 10.
