UO graduate's essay wins Oregon Quarterly contest
A recent University of Oregon graduate won first prize in the fourth annual Northwest Perspectives Essay Contest held by Oregon Quarterly, the University of Oregon magazine.
Kristina Johnson, who just completed a UO master's degree program in journalism, won $500 for her essay "Slow Rivers," which will be published in the summer 2003 issue of Oregon Quarterly. She now lives in Bainbridge Island, Wash.
Bonnie Dodge of Twin Falls, Idaho, won $150 for "Controlling the Flame." Susi Klare of Walton won a $50 gift certificate from the UO Bookstore for "The Death He Wanted."
The contest attracted 96 entries from throughout the Northwest. The subjects ranged...
