Bob Davidson has lived the luxurious life of baseball.

During 18 years as an umpire in the major leagues, Davidson stayed at fine hotels, flew around the country and dressed in spacious locker rooms while earning as much as $160,000 per year. He worked the 1992 World Series, three league championship series and two All-Star games.

Yet tonight, Davidson will squeeze into the cramped umpires' quarters at Civic Stadium before calling balls and strikes in front of a few thousand fans when the Emeralds face Tri-City. After nearly two decades in the majors and nearly four years out of the game, Davidson is starting over in the Northwest League.
