City likely to make a move on annexing fire department

Monday could bring change to the Springfield Fire Department - and your taxes.
The City Council will vote whether to annex the department into the Willakenzie fire district, which serves residents outside the city.
Moving the department into the district would free up tax revenue for other purposes, chief among them the police officers added with the passage of last November's levy. The levy must be renewed every four years, otherwise.
Assuming councilors go for the annexation, they face two questions: Approve the annexation outright or send it to the people for a vote?
