Derryl Parsons

SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be July 20 for Derryl Edward Parsons of Springfield, who died July 15 of cancer. He was 54.

He was born Sept. 22, 1949, in Eugene to Charles and Mae Chapman Parsons. He was a lifelong resident of the area. Parsons graduated from Junction City High School in 1967, and from the University of Oregon with a degree in political science and sociology.

He worked for a cannery and for local printing shops. Parsons was a writer, poet and musician who played keyboards and synthesizer. He was a gnostic Christian, and he loved music, reading, poetry and collecting music.

Survivors include a brother, Floyd of California; and a sister, Gayle Gietler of Buffalo, N.Y....
