CRESWELL - The kids are going to New York.

Two teenage golfers with one year of collegiate golf between them have qualified for the U.S. Amateur golf championships at the famed Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

Eric Hastings, who will be a sophomore at the University of Oregon next year, shot a 1-over-par 145 to take medalist honors in an OGA 36-hole stroke play qualifier Monday at Emerald Valley Golf Course.

Joel Johnson, who won the OSAA 4A high school championship as a senior at Westview last spring, won a sudden-death playoff over 2002 Oregon Amateur champion Gregg LaVoie of Pasco, Wash., and Erik Olson of New Castle, Wash., to earn the second spot in the 104th national amateur...
