SACRAMENTO - The University of Oregon split a pair of four-game matches Friday, losing their first counting match of the season on the first day of the Sacramento State Invitational volleyball tournament.

Sarah Mason led the Ducks (7-1) with 15 kills in a 30-21, 30-15, 24-30, 30-19 victory over Charlotte.

Sophomore setter Heather Madison had 35 assists, and Stephanie Alleman had 16 digs against the 49ers.

The Ducks hit a season-low .125 in the second match, a 28-30, 30-28, 30-22, 34-32 loss to San Jose State.

Mason and Kelly Russell each had 16 kills against the Spartans.

Oregon lost an exhibition to British Columbia on Sept. 11.
