Columnist was wrong

On Sept. 29, Ron Bellamy saw fit to quote me in his column. Regrettably, he knowingly took my words out of context and changed them by omission to make it appear that the University of Oregon had somehow lowered its standards.

In fact, what the university had done was to provide an opportunity to a troubled student to start over again. This is in the best tradition of any institution dedicated to learning. What I had done was to compliment them for it.

By using my words out of context, Ron Bellamy subjected me to ridicule from my friends and personal humiliation. He took something I love, and so as to feed his own personal scheme, twisted it to fit his own needs. He even added a patronizing...
