Eugene golfers close to final stage of qualifying

Eugene native Jeff Quinney shot a 1-under-par 71 in the third round of PGA Tour qualifying Friday at Black Horse Golf Club in Seaside, Calif., for an 8-under 208 total with one round left.
The South Eugene High School product, who won the Nationwide Tour's Oregon Classic in September, is in third place in his second-stage tournament.
The top 20 at Black Horse - there are six second-stage tournaments - advance to the final stage of qualifying for the PGA Tour to be contested Dec. 1-6 at PGA West Stadium Course and Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta, Calif.
Another Eugene native, Casey Martin, shot a 67 at Black Horse on Friday and is also in the mix in a tie for 21st place at 2 under.
