Ive been watching, with mixed emotions, the designation by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), of new Top Level Domains (TLDs) to the current Internet domain name system. TLDs are the two or three letter designations to the right of a Internet URL (Uniform Resource Locator), like .COM, .ORG, .NET or .EDU, generally signifying some sort of business, non-profit organization or association, network or institution of higher learning within or without the United States.

Other TLDs for a nationality based system are available for various countries, such as .UK for the United Kingdom, .CA for Canada and .US for the United States. However, you dont have to be associated with a country to use that countrys TLD.
