Tokyo stocks rise, Nikkei ends above 8,700 on tech buybacks.

TOKYO, June 6 Kyodo
Tokyo stocks closed higher in heavy trading Friday, pushing the key Nikkei index to end above 8,700 on late buybacks in technology shares and foreign investors buying large-cap steel and other issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 128.64 points, or 1.49%, to close at 8,785.87, ending above 8,700 for the first time since Feb. 17, after briefly rising above 8,800, also for the first time since that day on an intraday basis.
The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) gained 10.40 points, or 1.21%, to 869.61, finishing higher for the eighth straight session and hitting the highest mark this year.
