Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday Akio Toyoda, son of Toyota Honorary Chairman Shoichiro Toyoda and deemed a future president, will be promoted to senior managing director under the new management system to be introduced after an annual shareholders' meeting in June.
Akio Toyoda, 46, a managing director who is the grandson of the company's founder Kiichiro Toyoda, will be promoted only a year after assuming his current post in June last year.
After graduating from Keio University, Akio Toyoda joined the company in 1984.
