Andrew Thompson, worked as an editor and executive editor in BBC News before joining BBC's Sport Division in January 2001. His Sport Interactive department combines 13BC Sport's Web and interactive TV sites, and is gearing up for summer of sport that culminates in broadband and iTV coverage of the Athens Olympics. He spoke exclusively to NMA as Sport Interactive prepares to open its own New Media Broadcast Centre.
NMA: What was your brief when you were asked to head this division?
Thompson: I think for some years sport had become slightly out of favour within the BBC. We still produced fantastic outside broadcasts and great quality, but Sky had come along and there were lots of innovations in new media.
