MACHINE AND PLANT FLOOR NEWS: ABB OPENS COMPUTING AND ROBOTICS CORPORATE RESEARCH CENTER.

ABB, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland ( 41-43-317-7111) (www.abb.com)(whose U.S. head office, ABB, Inc., is located in Norwalk, CT, 203-750-2200) is to officially open a corporate research center (CRC) at its industrial computer control system facility in Wickliffe, Ohio, near Cleveland on November 10th. The CRC will focus on advanced computer process control and robotics to improve the efficiency and capability of industrial plants and electric utilities.
About $25 million has been invested in CRC operations in Wickliffe; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Windsor, Connecticut, which perform research and development projects with key universities, including Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Carnegie Mellon University, MIT, Stanford...
