Ever since Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General was released in May 2000, discussions have been ongoing about how to respond to it. (1) While the report emphasizes that oral health is essential to general health, it documents the inequities and disparities present in both oral health status and access to oral health care for certain population groups.
