The Texas Office of the Attorney General's Child Support Division, headed by Attorney General John Cornyn, provides many services to parents who wish to obtain or provide financial support for their children. From locating a noncustodial parent to establishing and enforcing child support orders, the office evaluates each situation on a case-by-case basis to determine what action needs to be taken.
Due to the work's intensive nature, staff members used to have trouble responding to inquiries and providing feedback in a timely manner. Child support customers who wanted information had to contact the office by phone. The number of calls was so high that only about 14 percent of callers could get through, and even these clients often hung up because of the long wait....
