INDUSTRY NEWS: Albemarle Completes Rhodia Acquisition.

Albemarle Corp. (451 Florida St., Baton Rouge, LA 70801-1785; Tel: 225/388-7402 or 800/535-3030; Fax: 225/388-7848) has completed its acquisition of Rhodia's phosphorus-based and ammonium polyphosphate flame retardants. The products, including Rhodia's Antiblaze line of retardants, used in rigid and flexible polyurethane foam applications.
The addition to Albemarle's polymer business segment is expected to bring in sales of $65 million in its first year. The acquisition from Rhodia SA (26, quai Alphonse Le Gallo, 92512 Boulogne-Billancourt Cedex, France; Tel: 33-1-55-38-40-00, Fax: 33-1-55-38-44-71) includes flame retardant products manufactured at Rhodia's sites in Charleston S.C., and in the UK towns of Oldbury, Widnes, and Avonmouth.
