NONHALOGENATED CHEMICALS: "Activated Retardants" Make More, Better Char.

A team of inventors has developed activated flame retardants -- nitrogenous phosphorus and sulfonate additives which have been enhanced with either a char-forming catalyst, a phase-transfer catalyst or both. The activated flame retardants provide improved char formation in polymers, coatings, paints, films, resins, binders and fibers.

The flame retardants have been developed by a team from Broadview Technologies (7-33 Amsterdam St., Newark, NJ 07105; Tel: 973/465- 0077, Fax: 973/465-7713), a chemical company which says its mission is to enhance material performance through chemistry.
