Australia public sector aiding Accenture's growth

Australia's government sector is proving a fertile ground for consultants, and Accenture is leading the pack in winning a share of major public sector contracts. Federal Government figures show that Canberra spent A$760 million on consultants in 2003.
Earlier this year, Accenture secured more than half the A$350 million (US$250 million) allocated by the Australian Tax Office (ATO) for its high-profile Change Program. The ATO contract is expected to deliver up to A$200 million to Accenture over the three-year timetable for the program.
Accenture's win was not without controversy, however. The ATO Change Program was terminated in December 2003 when the Office deemed all of the bids unacceptable. After ruling the tender null and void, the ATO awarded most of...
